I’ve already shown in a previous video that this commonly used switching converter is absolutely garbage when it comes to electromagnetic compatibility. Rightly so, some people questioned my measurement setup. For example, it was asked whether the LED spotlight used as a load might negatively affect the measurement. A quick check with an RF current probe shows: Yes, it does! The not entirely standards-compliant measurement setup was also criticized – and that’s true as well. So, is the converter actually not garbage? Yes, it is! Even in a fully CISPR 25 compliant setup, the converter fails to meet the fairly lenient CISPR25 Class 3 limits for conducted emissions, even at just 1 A output current.
