Starting electronics in 2026? You don’t need to buy every tool available online.

In this video, I break down the most useful electronics tools into three tiers: the essentials you should start with, the tools to add as you build and repair more circuits, and the equipment that becomes useful when you start measuring and analysing signals.

S Tier — The Essentials: Start Here
These are the tools I recommend having when you’re beginning electronics:

Breadboard
Jumper wires and hookup wires
Breadboard power supply
Electronic component kit
Digital multimeter
Wire cutter
Wire stripper
Tweezers
Multifunction component tester
Microcontroller board such as Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi Pico

These tools are enough to build and test a wide range of beginner electronics projects without spending a lot of money.

A Tier — The Workshop: Build and Repair
Once you start building permanent circuits, soldering, and repairing electronics, these tools become much more useful:

Adjustable bench power supply
Temperature-controlled soldering station
Solder wire and flux
Desoldering pump
Desoldering wick
Helping hands or PCB holder
Perfboard
Screwdriver set
Silicone electronics or soldering mat

This set gives you the equipment needed for soldering, assembling, repairing, and building more permanent electronic circuits.

B Tier — The Engineer’s Lab: Measure and Analyze
These tools aren’t necessary when you’re just starting, but they become valuable as your projects become more advanced:

Digital oscilloscope
Function generator or signal generator
Component storage organizers

An oscilloscope lets you see how voltage signals change over time, while a function generator provides controlled signals for testing circuits such as amplifiers, filters, and other electronic systems.

A good storage system also becomes increasingly useful as your collection of components grows.

The purpose of this guide is to help you buy electronics tools in the right order instead of spending money on equipment you don’t need yet.
