Electrical Engineering Components Tier List.
Resistor
The single most used component in existence and even when you aren’t using it, it’s still technically there. Solid B tier.
Diode
The versatility of the diode is crazy. It exists in so many circuits that you might think its a resistor. You got light emitting diodes, schottky diodes, zener diodes, photodiodes, varactor diodes, and many more. I would give it a B tier, but Electroboom would turn me into a full bridge rectifier, so it gets A tier.
Inductor
Annoying, every present, and it made its way into my physics class. I’m giving it a C tier and that is generous.
Capacitor
The goat of the electrical engineering world, you can’t find a circuit nowadays without seeing 30 bypass capacitors. A tier all the way.
Fuse
Often under-appreciated in the electrical engineering world. Probably because it is a less efficient resistor that gets praise for over heating. B+ because it’s better than the resistor but it has no diode.
Connectors
I’m grouping all connectors together to make a point at how insane they are. We have 10 different connector types for every different kind of connection needed to be made. If I were to run for president, I would run on a campaign of only allowing mini-usb as a connector type. Mini-usb because I have like 50 of them for no reason.
Bi polar junction transistor
If you were to ask me prior to college, I would’ve given this an S tier. But I have since learned it is not the goat, it is merely the sheep in goat’s clothing. It is clinging onto the MOSFETs fame and it needs to let go. D tier.
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
Seeing as I wouldn’t have been able to make this video if it weren’t for this component. A tier. Not S tier because I have never been burned more by any other component.
Relay
I am going to give this A+ tier, but not because the component is the best, but because it is trying its best. If I ever need a crappy way to turn something that is high power on, I know where to go. No other component can give me that comfort without costing more than my last paycheck.
Linear Voltage Regulators
I thought you were the shit but it turns out you are only a fart. They are amazing until you need any amount of power efficiency. C tier
Buck Boost Converters
The prophet to every electronics hobbyist that needs any voltage greater than 5V. These are amazing for every time I want to power my house on a 3V 2032 coin cell battery. S tier.
Transformer
The main reason I want to take apart my microwave. A tier.
My Girlfriend
The reason I have not taken apart my microwave. D tier
